The movie Lost Boys wasn't just about Kiefer Sutherland to me - though, it may be the first place I fell in love with him. Follow my blog long enough and you'll find numerous references to the original bad boy who stole my heart. But this post isn't about Kiefer.
Jessica Bell and I have teamed up for the A-Z blogging challenge this year to talk about our musical muses - a band/artist or song that has inspired, or affected us in some way.
CRY LITTLE SISTER by Gerard McMann certainly fits the bill. Never heard it? (I'm shocked, no appalled...) Have a listen:
There's something so incredibly haunting about that song, the kind of sound that makes me want to turn out the lights, close my eyes and lose myself in Gerard McMann's world. Gerard may have been a bit of a one-hit wonder, but like the movie it comes from, the song is a classic.
I don't always write to music, but when I do, this track is often on my playlist. Usually at the end of a writing stint, so I can immediately plug in the Lost Boys DVD and dream of penning a movie even half as epic.
Think fast. What song that starts with "C" has made an impact on your life?
Now, go check out some of the other blogs taking part in the A-Z Blogging challenge, including my Dawn Dalton blog where I'm talking about awesome YA books, and the Most-Wanted Monsters blog where Judith and I are writing poems and talking smack about some creeptastic beasties.

Ok, whilst I am thinking fast..Cry Baby by Madonna from the album I'm Breathless. Please dont judge me! Madonna was my idol in my early teen years and I remember this album because it was pretty risque for a 13 year old to be listening to at the time. I love this song though, just the whole whiny voice and not happy about an over sensitive man - Kesha's song Grow a pear is of a similar ilk. Now to appall you..I didnt know this song...I have only seen the film once, and everytime my friends mention how great Lost Boys is, I keep thinking I should watch it again.
ReplyDeleteNo shame in Madonna, at all! For a few years, Madonna is ALL I listened to. She was amazing back then, and she's still amazing today. Her staying power is impressive - and wow, she has aged so well. She looks great! And I love CRY BABY.
DeleteI admit...I AM apalled :-) But you're forgiven...but recommend you watching Lost Boys again. It's even better the second and third and fourth...etc time.
Love the song, loved that movie, have watched it on TV reruns countless times, will no doubt watch it many times more.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Bon Jovi rocks it; talk about improving with age.
Plus, the fact that he's remained married to his original wife is impressive given the temptations he must've faced.
I knew you'd love it, Venom!
DeleteAnd I totally agree - Jon Bon Jovi's love story is practically unheard of in today's society. Rockers have a history of infidelity. Love him!
I never heard that song before! *blushes* But you're right, it is very haunting, I love it!
ReplyDeleteLOL...you're forgiven since you listened to it now...and liked it. xo
DeleteLove the song also the blog.
ReplyDeleteAs I am doing about songs that made an impact on my teenage years there are many songs beginning with C. for example "Cry Me A River"
Yvonne.
Thanks, Yvonne.
DeleteOh! I LOVE Cry Me a River. Heading over to check out your blog...
This is a haunting song--very cool. I like the vibe in a weird sort of way.
ReplyDeleteSo you told me to think fast-- ha ha!! The first "C" song I could think of was Copacabana by Barry Manilow-- only because it is the only song pre-programmed in my Yamaha keyboard. LOLOL!!
Cheers, Jenn

Thanks for listening, Jenn. It does have a creepy vibe.
DeleteI do like that Barry Manilow song - and I always wanted a Yamaha keyboard!
i remember the first time i watched 'the lost boys', part of its allure for me was the sequence with this song. i used my allowance to by the soundtrack on cassette tape. i still think it, especially this song, is marvelous!
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, you're right - that whole soundtrack is awesome. I'm thinking about digging it out again...right after I watch the movie. Again.
DeleteHaha! I was a fan of this movie too, but because of Jami! :o) What's that say about me? What is wrong with me regarding male muses??? Great song too :) xx
ReplyDeleteOh Star was my idol forever. I LOVED her. Her hair. Her voice. Yeah, I get why you liked her :-)
DeleteWhat a great idea! Music, songs are always expressive, and with your written words. Fab.
ReplyDeleteThanks Guuye :-)
DeleteI can't think of a single song that starts with C, but the first band to come to mind is The Clash!
ReplyDeleteLove The Clash!
DeleteI LOVED this movie...and the song! :)
ReplyDeleteThey just don't make vampire movies like that anymore!
DeleteA classic track from a classic movie. Can you imagine this song being used in Twilight?, just wouldnt work would it?
ReplyDeleteHA HA. No, there is nowhere in Twilight this song would work. Love it.
DeleteExcellent song and a movie I've always had a soft spot for.
ReplyDeleteMy C song (for today at least): Crazy, by Seal.
Crazy...a wonderful song!
DeleteI loved the movie and like Stephanie I bought the sound track on Cassette. Liked nothing better than driving in the dark with Cry on loud... Of course I wouldn't dream of doing such a thing now I'm a mature dad of 3 teenagers, perhaps ;)
ReplyDeleteA c song ... "Crazy for you" Madonna
RJRdaydreamer
It IS the perfect song for listening to with the lights off - and loud! Take the teenagers along :-)
DeleteAnd I love Crazy for You.
I like your A to Z topic- fun! The only song I could dregde up quickly was Cinnamon Girl by Type O Negative... it didn't have an impact on my life... it's just what came up.
ReplyDeleteHappy blogging :)
Thanks Kaye. I don't think I have heard that song, but I'm going to look it up.
DeleteFor years I wondered who this song was by! What a fun post! I can't wait to see what you are cooking up for tomorrow :)

Thank you! Tomorrow is taking me back...to the 80s. Again. Man I loved that decade.
Deletegreat post---for some reason i have always loved "come saturday morning"
ReplyDeleteOh! I don't know that song. Going to check it out. Thanks, Lynn.
ReplyDeleteA 'C' song I really like is Kenny Rogers's Coward of the County (double 'C' bonus!). It's my first experience with a song that's not just signing about situation or a serenade, but actually tells a story--and a sweet one at that!
