Y is for (Goodbye) Yellow Brick Road

Jessica Bell and I have teamed up for the A-Z blogging challenge this year to talk about our musical muses - a band/artist or song that has inspired, or affected us in some way.

With all the glam rock I've been posting this past month, you might be somewhat shocked to see Elton John's (Goodbye) YELLOW BRICK ROAD on my list of influential songs. Then again, maybe not - Elton does have a flair for the theatrical.

Truth be told, I like a lot of Elton, and only picked Yellow Brick Road because it makes me think of The Wizard of Oz, a favorite movie of my youth. I also loved the Muppets...which is why I chose THIS version of the song off YouTube.

Yeah, I know, it's a bit of a cheat. The song is actually called Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, but it's been a long month, friends. Surely you'll cut me some slack.

Got a fave "Y" song? Bet it's Yellow Submarine. Prove me wrong.

Now, go check out some of the other blogs taking part in the A-Z Blogging challenge, including my Dawn Dalton blog where I'm talking about awesome YA books, and the Most-Wanted Monsters blog where Judith and I are writing poems and talking smack about some creeptastic beasties.

  1. I Love the Muppets. It would have been so great to have been a part of the making of that show. My favorite 'Y' song is "You're and Old Smoothie" sung by Ella Fitzgerald.

  2. Yes Sir, I Can Boogie by Baccara is one I like to dance to...and what about Yesterday, by the Beatles?

  3. Great choice! I love Elton John and (Goodbye) Yellow Brick Road more than you can know. But my favorite Elton John song also starts with a Y. It's called "Your Song." And, as much as I love the Beatles, I think Yellow Submarine is just plain silly and I heard it WAAAYYYY too much as a kid. Oh, well.

  4. Same band, but I liked Lennon's 'Yesterday' much better. Is Z Zebra?

  5. Good choice... I'm not the biggest Elton John fan in the world, but Rocket Man is one of my favorite songs of all time.

For me, It'd be tough to choose between anything from Y&T and Yngwie Malmsteen. Those aren't songs of course, but they still come to mind with the Y theme.

  6. Yellow Submarine is an absolute classic by one of my all-time favorite bands! My favorite Y song, however, is Yesterday...best sad song in the world!!! Love the Beatles!

    Blessings!
